Parenting is one of the most daring adventures, and every parent is a stumbling traveler. Thinking about all the things that you can say and do to influence and shape your child’s mind can be overwhelming. It is especially stressful when you understand that your actions will not only influence your child but every person they meet and connect with for the rest of their lives.
There is no defined guide or a perfect road map when you talk about parenting. You will have to improvise and make your way out of situations. No one can claim to be an ideal parent. It takes a tremendous amount of effort and some level of a psychological understanding to raise a child properly.
Writers keep struggling while trying to produce the best book for children, and they work with artists who make amazing creative art. You may remember a few famous children’s book illustrations and cartoons from your childhood too. Everything that you see and listen to as a child shapes your mind, and this is the reasons why you should go through the few tips mentioned below.
1. Love your children:
If you have had an experience of dating an individual who wants to change you and claims to love you, then you know where this is going. When you think about love, the essential thing is takin care of your child’s needs and necessities. It is not about shaping and pressuring them to be better. Just love them as they are and guide them when you feel the need to, do not dote on them a lot though, it would spoil them. Your kids will reciprocate and respond well if you give them space to learn and grow.
2. Don’t hover over them:
An individual needs to feel a sense of independence and freedom. For a kid, this is the most basic need that allows them to grow. Being protective and worrying is only natural however being overprotective, making sure that every need is met will keep them sheltered and protected from real-life problems, and they will walk unprepared into the world when their time comes.
3. Do not be harsh with your kids:
Be compassionate and tone your anger down. If you will yell and hit your kids, they will only get scared of you. They might do everything that you will tell them to do. However, they will obey you out of fear, not because they understand your concern. They might as well do things you tell them not to and hide them from you. Give your kid a logical reason for everything that you tell them.
4. Do what you want them to do:
If you expect your kid to pick up their toys after when they are done playing with them. You will have to pick up your books or papers after doing your work. If you want your kids not to fight, you have to demonstrate how you make your way out of an urgent situation. When your kids look at, you do something they learn from it.
5. Let them take charge and work on a democratic decision:
Let your kids decide a few things on their own. Allowing them to make decisions will make them fearless, and it will give them the amount of confidence that they need for facing the real world. Do not leave them all on their own though; the best thing to do is to decide with your kids.
This will make them believe that you respect and acknowledge their decision as a parent. It would encourage them and make them a team player.
6. Do not pose as if you know everything:
Be humble as it is only natural for you not to know a few things. When you do not understand something, you should accept it. If your kid asks something that you do not know you can say things like let us find out, let us look into it. Leave room for answers and growth. It would allow you to spend more time with your kids, and you will be able to learn and grow with them. Pretending that you know everything will only make you harsh and stiff and you will get defensive if your kid comes to you with a question the answer to which you will not know.
Parenting is not an effortless task, and no one is perfect. You would not know what you are doing in most parts. However, if you make a mistake and you realize at some point. You should not worry about apologizing to your child. It would make them respect you more. It can be nerve-wracking, and you might feel like you are at the end of your rope at times. However, you should not give up. Patience is all that you need in such situations.
