How you can stay motivated during your preparation for JEE mains 2019
The JEE is one of the most rigorous examinations that every engineering aspirant prepares for, which on clearing opens the doors to the prestigious IITs. To be successful in this exam students need to clear the JEE Mains, which is an objective type paper followed by JEE Advanced. Only the students successful in the JEE Mains move on to the JEE Advanced examination which tests the students’ conceptual knowledge and problem-solving capabilities. Students aspiring to get into the IITs begin their preparation from Class 6 onwards by focusing on making their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics concepts and foundation strong. A student who is consistent, determined and smart about his/her preparation, will have nothing standing in their way of success.
As the JEE Mains 2019 is only a few weeks away, more often than not, the pressure could get the better of you and making you doubt your capabilities. Whether you are stuck while solving a question or speaking to your friends or relatives about your preparation or your peers are talking about the number of hours they put in for their JEE preparation, a part of you starts questioning your effort, whether it is enough or even worse, are you good enough?
While you gear up for the JEE Mains 2019 this year, here’s how you can stay motivated to give your 100 per cent to the exam.
#1 Maintain Consistent Focus and be self-driven
During the course of your preparation for the JEE Mains, you would have understood your study process, topics that you enjoy, the most productive time of your day and what motivates you. Once you have an understanding of this, it is easy to deal with your struggles and mistakes. You’d be able to identify the areas where you need help leading to a focused approach to your JEE Mains preparation. Set a goal for yourself and work towards it. If you see yourself getting deterred from your goal, then pause and reflect on what you could do better. Even though the JEE Mains is a competitive exam for engineering aspirants, the real competition is with yourself to see how far you can push yourself and how can you train your mind to stay focused and driven.
#2 Planning is Key
An engineering aspirant who intends to sit for the JEE Mains 2019 should have drawn out a minimum two-year preparation plan with clear goals and targets. The JEE Mains tests the candidates on how strong their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics concepts are and how can they apply them to various problems given to them. Whether you decide to enrol yourself in a coaching institute or prepare for the exam on your own, without a proper plan and time management, you will just be another candidate in the herd wandering. Set deadlines to cover your syllabus and write it down and stick it on your study table where you can see it every day. This will help you measure your progress and act as a motivator.
#3 Studies should never take a back seat
Since the JEE Mains 2019 is only a few weeks away, every other aspect of your life except for studies can wait. If you believe that clearing the JEE Mains is your top priority, focus your energy and time on preparing for the exam. At the beginning of each day, make a deal with yourself about the number of hours you are going to devote to each subject or the number of topics that you are going to complete, no matter what.
#4 Your circle of peers matter
While going through this stressful time, it is essential for you to be surrounded by people who stay positive. This includes your coaching buddies, your friends at school and your family. You will find several people who are writing the exam because of family or peer pressure but aren’t putting the effort that is required. These students believe that they aren’t capable of clearing the exam, hence may discourage you from working towards your goal. It is extremely important to surround yourself with people who have the same goal in their mind. A positive attitude may take time to rub off on you, but it’s very easy to get derailed by associating yourself with a pessimist and doesn’t have any interest in succeeding in the exam.
#5 Reward yourself daily
If you have stuck to your schedule and completed the topics and put in the number of effective hours of study that you promised to yourself, then reward yourself with little treats. This could include half an hour of play or TV or a food item that you like such as a bar of chocolate or ice cream or even getting some shut-eye. A student may look at ‘successfully clearing the JEE Mains 2019’ as a massive goal which may seem a bit daunting. Set small achievable goals for yourself which can be completed every day. You can start by setting more manageable goals and gradually increase the number of hours or the difficulty level of the topic so that you are motivated to keep going.
Only you are your worst enemy or your best friend. Training your mind, so that it listens to you to act for the benefit of your well-being and growth is what you must strive to achieve. If you can convince yourself that the JEE Mains 2019 is what you want, then it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or says.
All the best!
